Can AI assistants book appointments or request quotes on my website?

Short answer

Sometimes, and it's still early. Some AI products can open a web page and fill out a form on a person's behalf, but what each one can do varies and changes often. What you control is whether your site is usable by an automated visitor: a plain form with labeled fields, and facts that can be read without JavaScript.

Sometimes: some AI products can open a web page and fill out a form for the person using them, but this is new, it varies from product to product, and it changes often. I’m not going to tell you which assistant can book a service call today, because any list would be out of date quickly and the companies involved revise these features without much notice. The useful question for an owner: if an automated visitor arrives on behalf of a real customer, can it use your site?

What an “AI agent” is

A homeowner in Carlsbad who asks “who installs heat pumps near me” gets an answer. A homeowner who says “get me quotes from two heat pump installers” is asking for an action: open each company’s site, find the quote form, fill it in and send it. An assistant that takes actions like that, as well as answering questions, is an agent. Products that attempt this exist, usually with the person approving the step before anything is submitted. How well they manage it depends on the product and on the website. To find out what a particular assistant can do right now, read that product’s own current documentation.

What makes a site usable by an agent

The page has to be simple enough that software can read it and operate it without guessing. In practice that means:

  • A plain HTML form on your own page, with a visible label attached to every field (“Name”, “Phone”, “What do you need help with”).
  • Few required fields.
  • Your services, service area, hours and phone number written as text on the page, not placed inside an image and not loaded only after a script runs.
  • A phone number that is real text and a working link.
  • A clear message after the form is sent, so the agent and the customer both know it went through.
  • No puzzle between the visitor and the submit button, because a CAPTCHA on the form can stop an AI agent.

Booking widgets supplied by another company and embedded in your page are a mixed case. Some are built cleanly and some are harder for software to work with. I can’t promise how any given agent handles any given widget. If you rely on one, keep a plain contact form on the site as well.

Why this is worth doing even if no agent ever visits

Every item on that list also helps people. Labeled fields are what a screen reader announces to a blind customer. Text that doesn’t depend on JavaScript loads on an old phone with a weak signal in Ramona. A short form gets finished more often than a long one. It’s ordinary good practice that happens to suit automated visitors too, and it’s part of the technical SEO work I’d do anyway.

What you can’t control

Whether a customer’s assistant tries to act, and which companies it picks, is out of your hands. An agent has to choose your business before it ever reaches your form, and that choice rests on the same things as any other AI recommendation: clear facts and reviews, plus what other sources say about you. Nobody can guarantee that choice. A usable form only means that if you’re chosen, the request isn’t lost at the last step.

How to test your own site

Ten minutes is enough for the basics. Turn off JavaScript in your browser settings and reload your contact page. If the services and the phone number are still there, and the form too, a simple automated visitor can probably see them. Next, put the mouse aside and move through the form with the Tab key. Every field should be reachable, and it should be obvious what each one is for. Then send a test request and see whether a confirmation appears and the lead reaches you.

If any of those fail, that is a specific repair for whoever maintains your site. It’s also one of the things I look at when I measure AI visibility, alongside whether you’re named in the first place.

Send me your website address, and I'll look at whether your facts and your quote form can be read and used without a person at the keyboard.
